Why use Fuzzi Bunz?
Fuzzi Bunz are a very simple, cost effective and environmentally friendly way to diaper your child. They are designed to be trim, keep your baby's bottom dry, allow varying levels of absorbency for daytime vs. nighttime, and to clean up beautifully with minimal effort. They are a pocket diaper which means that there is a pocket between the stay dry fleece lining and the waterproof shell where you put the absorbent insert(s). Inserts are what absorb the liquid that passes through the fleece layer. This two part system allows for easy and fast drying as well as flexible absorbency all while keeping your baby's bottom dry. A big question that is frequently asked is, what about solid waste? It isn't a problem at all. No dunking or soaking is required. Simply shake off any solid waste into the toilet. Whatever doesn't come off (including loose stools) will come off during the pre-wash without leaving any stains. These diapers have many of the advantages of a disposable and we find that even dads like them.
The Fuzzi Bunz Routine
Put one insert in the Fuzzi Bunz pocket for daytime use or two for a nighttime diaper. For a wet diaper just pull out the insert, lay it on top of the diaper, roll it up and drop it into the hanging diaper pail. For a soiled diaper do the same thing after you let whatever stool comes off fall into the toilet. On wash day just dump the contents into the washer and then drop in the hanging diaper pail inside out.
Do a short cold wash to remove the stool and then follow it up with a hot regular wash. After that, dry them on low to medium heat, or you can line dry them. Because they are in two parts, they will dry quickly. When dry, put the inserts back in them and start again. That's it - just use, wash and re-stuff. |

The free inserts are the Fuzzi Bunz 3 layer microterry inserts which work well. The Microterry Soakers by Nurtured Family perform a bit better and are well made. Our best insert is the Nurtured Family Contours insert which is 4 layers of super absorbent microterry that is sewn in such a way that each layer is exposed directly to the wash water. This means that they are easier to clean than the 3 layer inserts. You will generally need only one per diaper during the day and two for overnight or extended outings use. The general rule of thumb is to have about 6 microterry inserts for every 5 Fuzzi Bunz. If you would like to read more about them please visit our Insert Comparison Information Center page.
If you are just starting out, you should also consider how you want to store the dirty Fuzzi Bunz until laundry time. We recommend the hanging diaper pail for storing up to about 20 diapers. On wash day, simply empty the diaper pail, flip it inside out and toss it in the washing machine with the Fuzzi Bunz. It is recommended that you use a dry pail and not a wet one as wet pails will increase any odors. While you are out and about, the diaper tote works great to hold a few diapers until you can get home and put them in the hanging pail. Both of these bags contain odors very well and are waterproof as well, to make sure messes stay contained. To avoid some problems with your Fuzzi Bunz it is recommended that you use a detergent without fillers, perfumes and dyes. Allens Naturally is a great detergent and is the detergent recommended most by Mother of Eden, the Fuzzi Bunz manufacturer.
Another thing to consider is cloth wipes. If you are washing diapers, why not wash the wipes and stop spending money on disposable ones. Consider using Wonder Wipes, Baby Bits wipes solution and a wonderful fleece lined changing pad. To learn more about cloth wipes please view our cloth wipes information center page.
Packages are a great way to start off and you get some extra inserts free.

Washing Instructions
On wash day, run the dirty Fuzzi Bunz, inserts and any Mother of Eden accessories through a
short cold wash. This cycle loosens up and removes most, if not all of the stool. Then wash them in hot water with half the suggested amount of
detergent (Allens Naturally detergent is recommended) and rinse well. Dry them on low heat or line dry. That's it.
While Fuzzi Bunz are certainly easy to care for, there are some things that you should keep in mind.
- Using too much detergent will result in detergent build-up on the fleece. Over time this may cause leaking, since the fleece is no longer porous, and it may also be an irritant to your child's skin. Mother of Eden and
Nurtured Family recommend Allens Naturally detergent. It is economical, leaves no residue to block the pores in the fleece and it will get your diapers clean. Other
detergents that work well are 7th Generation, Ecover, and Life-Kind. To help remove stains on inserts you may also use Oxy Clean as it is safe for them as well as the Fuzzi Bunz. Do not use bleach or fabric softeners.
- Do not wash natural fibers (such as cotton prefolds or cotton cloth wipes) in the same load with your Fuzzi Bunz. The lint released from these natural fiber products can pill on the Fuzzi Bunz fleece, resulting in a coarse feel, though they will still be effective. Nurtured Family Contours, Microterry Soakers and all of the Mother of Eden accessories are safe to wash with Fuzzi Bunz.
- Do not use diaper creams with Fuzzi Bunz, as they may stain or produce leaking. When diaper creams are necessary, Stay Dry Liners may be used between your baby and the Fuzzi Bunz diaper, though these should be washed separately from your Fuzzi Bunz.
Special Cleaning Situations
Every once in awhile someone encounters persistent odor, repelling fleece, or leaking diapers. If you are experiencing this, then your Fuzzi Bunz are ready for some special cleaning. To test your Fuzzi Bunz for a repelling problem, follow these steps. First, put an insert into the pocket of your dry, clean Fuzzi Bunz diaper. With a water dropper or nasal aspirator, drop water close to the fleece on the diaper. If the water beads on the surface of the fleece, you have a repelling problem. Fuzzi Bunz diapers should not repel water. When this occurs, it is helpful to consider what is being used on your diapers that is causing build-up. The numbered steps below should resolve the problem. If, after following the instructions below, your diapers still repel water, please contact us for help at support@nurturedfamily.com.
1. Start with your Fuzzi Bunz in a clean state or wash them as you normally would.
2. Run your Fuzzi Bunz and inserts through a hot water, heavy duty cycle without any detergent.
3. Get an excellent detergent, such as Allens Naturally, 7th Generation or Ecover and wash your Fuzzi Bunz in hot water, using half of the suggested amount of detergent. 4. If the problem is severe, repeat step three.
5. Run a cold rinse. If you have hard water, add Baking Soda (per the instructions on the box for laundry) to soften your water, which helps release residual detergent.
6. If you still see bubbles in your rinse water, run another cold rinse using the baking soda. Repeat until you see no more soap bubbles.
7. Sun dry your Fuzzi Bunz or tumble dry on low heat.
After this process, you should have very clean, odorless diapers.
Cost and environmental benefits
The cost and environmental savings of using Fuzzi Bunz instead of disposable diapers is
enormous as shown below. This chart also does not take into account using the same set of Fuzzi Bunz diapers on another child - the savings then multiply.

Other FAQ's
Who created Fuzzi Bunz and why?
Fuzzi Bunz were born out of Tereson Dupuy's need for a better diaper for her sensitive skinned, rash prone, baby boy. After an exhaustive search, and a disappointing trial period using the "best" cloth and disposable diapering products, Tereson decided to develop a diaper for her baby that satisfied them both. It had to keep her baby's skin dry, it had to be leak proof, and it had to be easy to care for, clean and use. The end result? Fuzzi Bunz diapers. After making them for her own son, and seeing how well they worked, she began making them for her internet friends who also cloth diapered their babies. Her friends were astounded with what they received. Fuzzi Bunz have rapidly become one of the most popular cloth diapers today.
Why fleece?
Fleece quickly wicks moisture away from the baby and dries. Other fabrics were
considered for this “stay dry” layer but none performed as well
as fleece. It was also softest next to baby’s skin. Fuzzi Bunz worked
for a year with a fabric manufacturer overseas to perfect this material and
it is custom made for the Fuzzi Bunz diapers. It stays soft, does not repel
urine, or pill.
Why a pocket? Why not sew everything together?
One word ...sanitation. Separating the layers is much more sanitary than having them all sewn together. It is more difficult to get a thick item cleaned thoroughly than one that is separated into two pieces (the Fuzzi Bunz diaper and an insert).
There are two other benefits to the pocketed design. The first is that you can add or decrease
the amount of absorbency for day or night and secondly, since both parts are removable,
drying time is significantly decreased.
Really? No Stains?
No stains. Fleece is a polyester material and polyester does not hold stains.
Fuzzi Bunz also do not shrink due to this material unlike cotton diapers.
Are these easy to use?
Very easy. Since there is no additional stay dry liner, pins or cover, they
are just as easy to use as a disposable. Dads and grandparents rave about these
diapers too. You can typically go from start to finish in less than 30 seconds.
What do you put in the pocket?
Fuzzi Bunz can be used with anything in the pocket that is absorbent. Prefold
diapers were the original insert. Now there are Microterry Inserts and
Doublers that dry quickly and are super absorbent! You can shop our selection of inserts here.
What about wipes?
As you begin to use cloth diapers you will also find that cloth wipes make a lot of
sense. You can wash them with your diapers and stop buying and throwing away
disposable wipes. We highly recommend the Wonder Wipes by Mother of Eden. Want to know more? Cloth wipes info.
Are they hot??
No! It would seem that a fabric like fleece would keep a baby warm. In the winter
it will keep them nice and cozy, during the summer it will keep them cool and
comfortable. Fuzzi Bunz were invented in Louisiana and there has never been
a problem with heat.
